Woodbridge Tide Mill Event Saturday 12th May 2012

10 May 2012 by Dee

Woodbridge Tide Mill Event Saturday 12th May 2012 - Suffolk Punches to deliver grain to the historic Tide Mill on May 12th.

Two Suffolk Punches, Oakem and Laurel will pull a vintage Miller’s Cart through the streets of Woodbridge to deliver sacks of wheat to the newly restored Tide Mill. The Woodbridge Tide Mill Trust and Suffolk Punch Trust are working together to mark the National Mills Weekend 12/13 May. During the weekend over 400 mills of all types and throughout UK will be open to the public. It is hoped that people will come and join the Trusts in celebrating the historic importance to their communities of the Tide Mill and working Suffolk Punch Horses.

The cart driven by Tracy Pettitt will leave Melton Hill at 11am and follow a route round Woodbridge that includes the Thoroughfare, Market Hill, New Street and on to the Tide Mill at 11.30am where the machinery will be turned. The vintage cart, owned by Mr Paul, was built in 1912 by Gibbons of Crowfield for £12 and restored in 1978. It is regarded as the finest example of it's type in UK.
