In the Community Hour on Monday 24th April, the host Alex Ivancevic will be talking to Mr Duncan Reade, the Community Roots Project Co-coordinator. The Community Roots initiative is a volunteer led project, a therapeutic horticultural scheme designed to support those who are marginalised by society.

Topics: use of allotments to teach horticultural skills, reduce stress and feelings of isolation, nurture friendships and build communication skills

The topic of the programe will be community policing, crime prevention and reduction, as well as community safety and forthcoming police community engagement events and opportunities for members of the public to find out more about policing and how they could get involved.

In today’s Community Hour on Monday 10th April Alex Ivancevic talkied to Dr Patel who is a Consultant Gastroenterologist based at University Hospitals Southampton and the Bowel Cancer Screening Clinical Director for Hampshire BCSP (Bowel Cancer Screening Programme), and Jayne Thomas who is the Senior Nurse and Regional Manager for BCSP. Dr Patel and Ms Thomas set up the BCSP 10 years ago across the whole of Hampshire working closely with the Department of Health and local hospitals.

Topics: Community health and prevention; The importance of Bowel Cancer Screening; Gastroenterology – covering both upper and lower parts of the gastrointestinal tract and the common symptoms including indigestion, iron deficiency anaemia, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, rectal bleeding, and jaundice.
