I didn’t realise how good Patrick Duff is. I love the tracks on his new album but when you hear them live something different happens, it is really hard to explain but it is quite easy to understand when you hear him talk about the moment when the South African singer Madosini gave him something that I am currently describing as ‘her ancestral ability to make music’. It had been passed down for many generations, woman to woman, but with no one in the village to pass it on to, not only did Madosini give it to a man, but a white one.
